European Legislation in the field of secondary fuels is derived as well from the environmental side as from energy production.
Important legislation to consider in this field is e.g.:
The waste incineration directive
The waste incineration directive sets the rules under which solid recovered fuels can be used in dedicated incinerators or in industrial plants using solid recovered fuels as fuels to substitute primary fuels (like coal, lignite or oil)
The RED
Directive 2009/28/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 23 April 2009 on the promotion of the use of energy fom renewable sources.
The waste framework directive
The waste framework directive sets the important definitions in the field of waste management, amongst them the definition of waste and the definition of disposal and recovery.
